Hispanic Heritage History Month Student Activities

In the spirit of celebrating the extraordinary contributions from Hispanic innovators, creators, and trailblazers, the Soundtrap education team has put together a series of powerful activities that spotlight those leaders, culture shifters, and innovators. We hope you leverage Soundtrap to bring these stories to life this month and beyond!

Worker’s Right and Social Justice

  1. Introduce Students to the UFW and their cause:
  2. Have students learn about Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez
  3. Students will then, individually or in pairs, create a script as if they were interviewing either Cesar Chavez or Dolores Huerta. Some possible topics to consider:
    • Their childhood
    • Their role with the UFW
    • Their relationship with other activists like Larry Itliong
    • Their impact on society today
    • What risks did they take?
    • What obstacles did they overcome?
  4. Students will then enter Soundtrap and record themselves role-playing the interview of either Dolores Huerta or Cesar Chavez

Extension: Have students learn about songs of la causa (the cause) such as De Colores, Huelga en General, La Peregrinación and include them in their Soundtrap project.

Soundtrap x Canva App Smashing Activity

  1. Students will have the choice to select a piece of artwork from the exhibits found here.
  2. Students will choose one piece of visual art from the three museums to inspire their own interpretation of the art chosen.
  3. Students will use Canva to create a design using Canva’s Elements to recreate their interpretation of the art work they explored.
  4. Students will create an audio project in the Soundtrap Studio sharing the name of the artist, title of artwork and what they saw. They will then reflect on the artwork.
    • Ex. How does this piece of artwork reflect your culture and identity? What connections do you have with this artwork or what does it remind you of? Recordings can be between 30 secs to 1 min. Include music or loops from the loops library to add to the theme of the artwork.
  5. Once recording is complete, download the audio and import the audio from Soundtrap onto your Canva design (example here)

Cápsula Cultural de Soundtrap: Versión del Mes de la Herencia Hispánica

Actividades estudiantiles para celebrar Mes de la Herencia Hispánica Con el espíritu de celebrar las contribuciones extraordinarias de los innovadores, creadores, y pioneros hispanos y latinos, el equipo de Soundtrap ha creado una serie de actividades poderosas que subrayan a esos líderes, innovadores, y los que abogan por los cambios culturales. ¡Esperamos que aproveche Soundtrap para elevar estas historias este mes y todo el año!

Derechos y justicia de los trabajadores

  1. Introduzca el UFW y su causa a los estudiantes
  2. Los estudiantes aprenden sobre Dolores Huerta y Cesar Chavez
  3. Después, en pares o individualmente, los estudiantes crean un guión en voz de entrevistador con Cesar Chavez o Dolores Huerta. Algunas temas para considerar:

Soundtrap y Arte

  1. Los estudiantes pueden elegir una obra de arte desde las exposiciones aquí.
  2. Los estudiantes eligen una obra de arte visual de los tres museos para inspirar sus propias interpretaciones del arte elegido.
  3. Los estudiantes utilizarán Canva para crear un diseño usando “Elements de Canva” para recrear su interpretación de la obra de arte que exploraron.
  4. Los estudiantes crearán un proyecto de audio en el estudio de Soundtrap compartiendo el nombre del/de la artista, el título de la obra de arte, y lo que vieron. Después, ellos van a reflexionar sobre la obra de arte. Por ejemplo, ¿Cómo se refleja la cultura y/o la identidad de su cultura en la obra de arte? ¿Cuáles conexiones tiene Ud. con esta obra de arte?
  5. Las grabaciones de audio pueden ser treinta segundos hasta un minuto
    • Incluya música o sonidos de Loops Library para acompañar a la obra de arte.
    • Después de cumplir su grabación, descargue el audio e importe el audio de Soundtrap a su diseño en Canva. Ejemplo
